A printmaker without a press, I have returned to my first love of drawing and created a studio titled "pencilpress."
A little bit about myself:
I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama. I received my BFA from the University of Montevallo in 2000, a degree that concluded in a double concentration in Printmaking and Sculpture with Painting not too far behind.
However, after I graduated, she found myself a printmaker without a
press, inspiring my return to my first love of drawing. This led to the creation of a
studio called “pencilpress.”
My current work includes pieces on wood panel, canvas, and paper. Pieces typically involve several coats of under painting and multiple layers of drawing which result in a very textural piece. At shows, my work ranges from original mixed media drawings, silk-screen printed t-shirts, reproduction prints of selected originals. Commission service is always available upon request.
I find using animals as my primary focus in art can be tricky. I am always looking to find the balance between a straightforward representation and indulging a sense of humor about myself and my work. My ultimate goal is that the animals are well represented, funny when intended, and always portrayed in an interesting way.
Recent awards have included being selected as the featured artist for 2013’s Moss Rock Festival, placing 2nd at 2013’s Annual Holiday Craft Bazaar, and receiving the 3rd place (Maystein Founders Prize) at 2012’s Art on R Mountain. In 2014, I was named as one of the “15 Artist to see at Artwalk” by AL.com.
Throughout the year you can find me exhibiting around Birmingham, Alabama in festivals such as Art on Red Mountain, Magic City Art Connection, ArtWalk, and Moss Rock Festival. I have also participated in Birmingham’s inaugural Art Crawl, Bottletree Flea, Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale, Avondale’s annual Holiday Craft Bazaar, and most recently at the monthly Saturn Swap.
My work can be found online in the pencilpress Etsy store, at Naked Art Gallery in Birmingham, at Orbit Salon in Birmingham’s historic Southside neighborhood, at The Kentuck Gallery Shop located in Northport, Al, and also traveling across the US with Small Room Collective – a road emporium.
Commissions are always welcome. Just ask!
